Dear
Mr. Lohr,
"Jeff, I wanted to let you know how much I thoroughly enjoyed my time in your woodworking class. Not only was it a great learning experience for me, but I had a great time with you and the other students. I have been to a number of other schools including David Ellsworth's Woodturning School and the Anderson Ranch in Colorado. When I first looked at your website with regard to Woodworking 101 I was very hesitant to sign up because of my experience. I really wanted to take your advanced class, but your statement of how most woodworkers are self-taught was very accurate with me. I wanted you to know that you were correct when you made the statement that everyone can learn from a professional woodworker with thirty years of experience in the trade. What I learned the most is the step by step procedure that you went through from selecting the stock, to the layout on the boards with the chalk, to the lettering of each piece and probably most importantly, squaring the stock. I have usually been able to get the results I wanted when building a piece of furniture, but what you taught us in the class now gives me the ability to do it the proper way which will greatly reduce the time it will take me to finish a project and will also eliminate a lot of wasted wood. I would highly recommend anybody from the novice woodworker to the advanced woodworker to take one of your classes. Please put me on the very top of your list for your next class. Thanks again for all of your help. Bill Thompson, Chadds Ford, PA
" Jeff’s tremendous skill as a woodworking artisan is abundantly apparent in the beautiful furniture he creates. Jeff also possesses the same degree of skill as a teacher. I originally met Jeff at the Philadelphia Furniture show while I was admiring his furniture. I was immediately struck by his friendly and engaging personality and by his love and enthusiasm for the art of creating fine furniture. When I discovered that he also taught a class, Practical Woodworking 101, I was extremely excited and quickly enrolled. Before the class, I had some relatively substantial wood working experience. I had done a lot of rough framing as a college student and had become relatively competent at general home improvement projects. What I lacked was any real knowledge about basic furniture joinery and finishing techniques. Jeff’s easygoing nature and sense of humor did not belie the seriousness in which he taught the class. His ability to clearly explain joiner techniques and other key information, to pure novices as well as more experienced individuals like myself, was outstanding. Everything that he taught during the classroom sessions was used during the building of the table project. The table project was perfect for the course, because not only does it look great, but also because it makes you practice all of the techniques that are important in building any future projects you may wish to tackle on your own.
