Advanced Joinery - Tuition and Materials Considerations
Tuition / $1,250 Lumber for Course / $200 + $12 Pa.Sales Tax
As you will recall in the Practical Woodworking 101 course the Tuition and Lumber & Material Fee were separate. We are required to do the same thing for the Advanced Joinery Course in regard to tax law issues of services being non-taxable and goods such as lumber being subject to PA Sales Tax. However in the case of the later (the materials requirement) we have significantly more difficult and challenging issues to overcome. Your project will require as below:

TOTAL LUMBER FEE THROUGH OUR SCHOOL = $200
(For practical purposes, we have discontinued any
allowances for students to supply their own lumber for this Advanced Joinery
Course. It is critical that the material be of the highest quality, proper
moisture content, and the right grain structure for dovetail joint
construction We base this decision to no longer entertain any allowance
for student supplied lumber on three trials of this practice conducted in 2010
that in nearly all cases the material supplied by the student was either not in
the right rough dimension, had completely unworkable figure, was improperly
dried, and/or had other inhibitive characteristics that had a negative effect on
the class. This not only frustrated the student who bought their own
material but this also significantly held up other members in the class that
were using our school supplied material for which no such issues occurred.
All should know that we supply the best quality Black Cherry and Black Walnut
and do this at zero markup to our students. Additionally all should know
that we even go well beyond the FAS selections in the Practical Woods Course and
presort and carefully hand select each and every piece supplied in each
student's bundle weeks prior to each course. We guarantee
satisfaction with our high quality material supplied.)
